CITIZENS COMPASS— Yoruba Nation agitator, Chief Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has been alleged of plunging some parts of Ibadan, Oyo State, into fresh crises following a disagreement with some real estate companies.
‘Igboho Oosa’ as he is popularly called was said to be recently involved in a reign of terror which has left some estate developers and their loyalists trembling.
This came barely one month after a presidential pardon and dramatic return from exile.
The popular agitator has been allegedly spotted storming construction sites in a convoy of over 15 vehicles alongside armed boys who descend on unsuspecting real estate firms to shut down their activities.
The latest incident, which occurred on Monday, saw Igboho and his gang invading the premises of a prominent real estate development firm, halting work completely and subjecting terrified staff to a torrent of fire and brimstone as workers fled for safety. At the same time, the activist read the riot act, warning them to pay up or pack up.
What has sent shockwaves through Ibadan’s business community is Igboho’s repeated boast that he is operating with the full backing of the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja. Witnesses at the Monday invasion quoted him as brandishing the royal signet like a sledgehammer, daring anyone to challenge his authority while claiming that Oba Ladoja was his father and he was untouchable.
A few weeks ago, a series of videos captured Igboho singing a different tune entirely, pleading with some revered royal fathers like Olubadan, Ooni of Ife, and Olugbon of Orile Igbon expressing gratitude for their intervention in the presidential pardon.
Not quite long, he appears to have shifted his focus from criminal elements to the real estate developers who have been creating jobs and developing communities.
It was learnt that the real estate company who was at the center of Monday’s invasion has engaged the prestigious Afe Babalola Law firm to seek urgent redress.
The company has also petitioned the Inspector General of Police, Oyo State Governor, National Assembly, and the presidency over the alleged invasion.
Legal experts confirmed that the move signals a no-nonsense approach with the company insisting that business cannot be held hostage by anyone regardless of their political connections.
While some dismissed Igboho’s alleged resurgence as mere grandstanding, others recalled his antecedents, the bloody raid of his Ibadan home in 2021 that left three aides dead, and his dramatic flight into exile.
In a telephone conversation with Citizens Compass, Igboho dismissed any reign of terror on real estate developers saying that he was out to stop illegality at construction sites.
According to him, “I am a peace loving Yoruba man who dislikes illegality. I am concerned about the level of atrocities at some construction sites: A situation where some estate developers will pay and collect receipts for 10 acres of land only to erect a wall around 100 acres which are not paid for.
“We must stop illegality on our land. I have no issue with real estate projects but I am against illegality and we must ensure that land is genuinely bought and paid for before construction commences.”
