CITIZENS COMPASS—Lagos State Police Command yesterday, said the Senior Pastor of House on the Rock Church, Paul Adefarasin’s has volunteered a cautionary statement to the officers conducting investigations on him.
Spokesperson for the Command, Benjamin Hundeyin, disclosed this in a statement.
Citizens Compass reported that the Pastor willingly turned himself in for investigations on Tuesday.
Hundeyin on Tuesday night said investigations have commenced.
Citizens Compass reported that a content creator posted that the pastor brandished a gun during an encounter with him but Adefarasin has since cleared the air on this.
The recent video posted by a content creator captured the cleric flashing the object while seated in a vehicle.
This has stirred controversies on social media and attracted law enforcement agencies as Police began investigations.
“You might be aware of a video which has been circulating on social media showing me in what some have misunderstood as brandishing a firearm,” the statement reads.
“I want to assure you of this — that, that was certainly not a firearm, and at no point did I point such at anyone.”
The creator claimed the 62-year-old clergyman pointed a gun at him for recording his vehicle.
In the 10-second video, a black Range Rover slowed near the content creator, and the tinted window rolled down. The content creator is heard greeting Adefarasin, but the pastor appears to respond sternly while holding the object as the content creator quickly apologised.
The pastor has since debunked this in one of his social media posts.
Hundeyin said, “Pastor Paul Adefarasin, who turned himself in today at the Lagos State Police Command over a viral video where he was seen holding a gun-like object against another road user, was interrogated and he volunteered a cautionary statement to the police investigators.
“What was recovered from him, the gun-like object seen in the viral video, is not a lethal weapon or firearm but a stun gun which is a prohibited anti-riot equipment.
The pastor has been granted bail while investigations continue into the case.
“Stun Guns are highly effective self-defense tools for men and women that emit electrical currents which can cause a would-be attacker to feel pain. The charge can also disorient the assailant, allowing you a chance to escape to safety.
Under Section 5 Firearms Act “1968 stun guns are classified as firearms. They are always illegal to possess.”
