CITIZENS COMPASS —The Chairman of Ikorodu Local Government, Wasiu Ayodeji Adesina, has said the council would follow due process in choosing and appointing the next Iyaoloja-General of Ikorodu.

Adesina disclosed this on Tuesday.

Citizens Compass reports that former Iyaloja of Ikorodu, Alhaja Taofikat Allynson died and was buried on July 2, 2023.

The Council Chairman gave the warning during the meeting he held with all heads of market units at the council secretariat in Ikorodu, Lagos State.

He said that establishment and management of markets in a community is solely under the powers and supervision of the local government as enshrine in the constitution of the Lagos State Government.

I will not tolerate imposition but ensure that due process is followed in selecting the next Iyaloja of Ikorodu.

“I was aware of the information moving around that someone has been acting as Iyaloja, since I came back, I have not met her.

“Some market women have come to complain over her irrational behaviour in managing the market affairs.

“I was also told that the council no longer generates revenue from Sabo market since she started acting.

“I would not tolerate that, we must follow due process and the selection must be in accordance to the law of the State,”Adesina said.

However, the chairman directed all the market women to go and hold meeting among themselves within the week and nominated someone of their choice as iyaloja general of Ikorodu.

He also appealed to them that normalcy would soon return to the market adding that the office space at Sabo market was meant for Iyaloja general to ayyeend to issues bothering markets in Ikorodu Communities.

I was told that the office of iyaloja at Sabo market which is under lock and key has been occupied by another person, I am directing her to vacate the space now.

“I can assure you that peace and normalcy will return to the Sabo market because the law will takes its cause.

“The former iyaloja during her period, we held meetings weekly where she give updates on all markets

“All if you should go and hold hold meeting and select a person with pedigree and integrity, bring her to me and I will take her to the monarch for confirmation.

“That is what the constitution says and the council will not go against it,” he said.

Responding, the Babaloja of Ikorodu, Chief Wasiu Jaiyesinmi urged the council chairman to synergies with them and carried them along on matters relating to the market.

Jaiyesinmi said there was no appropriate information and many of them were not aware of the Constitution or law guiding the establishment, management and the principle of selecting iyaloja of markets in their domain.

“What I noticed in this matter was that the council has not been carrying us along on most issues concerning the market.

Since we have heard now, we will go and select one person amongs us that will be the iyaloja to settle the lingering issues,

he said.
