38 years after, Obafemi Awolowo loses grandson 

 

CITIZENS COMPASS— 38 years after the death of the late elder statesman, Obafemi Awolowo, his first grandson, Segun Awolowo, is dead.

Obafemi Awolowo was the first Premier of the Western Region and was a Presidential candidate of the Unity Party of Nigeria (UPN) who introduced free education in Nigeria.

He hailed from Ikenne in Ijebu area of Ogun State.

His grandson, Según has passed away at the age of 62.

The Awolowo family on Thursday, announced the sudden death of their son in a statement. It reads, “With extremely heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, and grandfather — Olusegun Awolowo,” the statement read.

“He was the world’s most phenomenal husband, father, and grandfather — steady, wise, endlessly loving, and the constant anchor of our family. A painfully loyal servant to Nigeria, he dedicated his life to the service of his country with vision, integrity, passion, and unwavering commitment. He was a true family man, a great friend, a wonderful and a deeply beautiful human being.”

At press time, details of his death were sketchy.
