CITIZENS COMPASS—Many indigenes of Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State are currently in suspense following the postponement of a meeting meant to nominate candidates for the vacant stool of the Awujale of Ijebuland.
The Fusengbuwa Ruling House had earlier scheduled the meeting against Monday, December 15, 2025 at Bisrod Hall, GRA, Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State.
Citizens Compass reported that the Ruling House also spelt out modalities for the nominations meeting including strict access control stating that only accredited family members would be granted entry into the venue of the meeting.
Among other modalities stated by the Ruling House was candidate representation at the meeting.
Despite the modalities, the Fusengbuwas over the weekend, announced postponement of the meeting.
Spokesperson, Fusengbuwa Nomination Committee, Omooba Abiodun Ogidan, had announced the postponement in a statement titled “To all Members of Fusengbuwa Ruling House, Ijebu-Ode,” which reads, “Due to circumstances beyond the family’s control, the Fusengbuwa Ruling House Awujale Nomination Meeting scheduled for Monday, 15th December 2025, has been postponed. The new date will be announced shortly. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.”
In a chat with Citizens Compass, a member of the Ruling House who pleaded anonymity said the meeting was postponed for security reasons.
According to the family member, Fusengbuwa Ruling House faces pressure from both local and state governments for the postponement.
According to the member, “The family had no choice than to postpone the meeting for security reasons and pressure from the local government and state government.
“Our elders wanted the meeting to be held but the governments prevailed on them.”
The Nomination meeting is the next phase of the process for the selection of a candidate to fill the vacant stool of the Awujale of Ijebuland.
Following the postponement, many indigenes of Ijubu-Ode have taken to social media to express worries.
