Controversy as Gospel artist, blogger, die mysteriously in Lagos 

…Bereaved mother cries out

CITIZENS COMPASS— Controversy has surrounded the mysterious death of a gospel artist, Matthew Ogundele, and three of his crew members have died in a mysterious circumstance in a studio in Ajah, Lagos State.

Their death occurred on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, following a three-day online praise in celebration of a birthday.

The event was said to be organised by another Gospel, gospel artiste, Olanireti Akinbola.

The incident which recently occurred, has raised concerns as the circumstance leading to their death was yet to be unraveled.

Although the Police had since commenced investigations into the mysterious death, details remain sketchy.

Citizens Compass learnt that the tragic incident has been incidented with Ajiwe Police Station, Abraham Adesanya in Ajah, Lagos.

Apart from the Gospel artist, a blogger, Matthew Awosanya, popularly known as JoesTv, and two other crew members, Itunu Ogundele and Joseph Sanya were recovered dead in the studio.

One of the deceased was said to be a drummer and all were invited to perform on Tuesday, which was the second day of the event but due to logistics, they decided to spend the night in the studio. Unfortunately, they died in their sleep.

Speaking in an online video, a Gospel singer, Bisola Bright, said she performed at the event prior to the tragic incident.

According to her, “I performed at the online praise on Monday, the first day of the event. To the glory of God, everything went well but we rounded off late and I returned home because my house is not far from the venue. I received the tragic news after the second day of the event. It occurred on Tuesday night.

“I am not the spokesperson for the organisers and all I know is that the Police have commenced investigations.

“The owner of the studio would not pray for the tragic incident to occur.”

A trending video captured a woman claiming to be the mother of three of the victims who lost their lives tragically. She called on well meaning Nigerians and security agencies to unravel the tragic incident.

According to her, “I am the mother of Segun, Prince and Matthew who attended an event in Ajah but died in a studio. Four people died in the studio but three are my biological children. We called their mobile phones without response and we traced them to Ajah where their bodies were recovered. Segun, Itunu and Matthew were rising stars but I have lost them to the cold arms of death.”

The blogger was said to have attended the event in pursuit of a better life.

Due to the distance of the studio from their homes, the victims decided to spend the night at the location.

At press time, the Police was yet to issue an official statement.
