CITIZENS COMPASS— The Osun State chapter of the African Action Congress (AAC), on Monday, said it has accepted the outcome of the Saturday Gubernatorial election which saw the incumbent governor, Ademola Adeleke, coasting home victoriously.
Adeleke contested for the election under the platform of the Accord Party.
Akinlade Semiu Babatunde, State Publicity Secretary, African Action Congress (AAC), Osun State chapter disclosed this in a statement thanking the party supporters for a successful election.
According to AAC: The African Action Congress (AAC), Osun State Chapter, heartily appreciates all our party faithful, comrades, supporters, volunteers, and well-meaning Nigerians across Osun State and other state chapters for their solidarity, commitment, and unwavering support throughout the electioneering period.
Although the outcome of the election was not the result we wished for, we remain proud of the movement we have built and the consciousness we have awakened across the 30 Local Government Areas and Area Councils of Osun State. We assure our supporters that we will emerge stronger and continue to nurture the seeds we have planted into a fully grown, organic, people-oriented movement.
While we accept the outcome of the election in good faith, we maintain that genuine democracy cannot be fully realised in a society where poverty makes citizens vulnerable to the temptation of selling their votes to the highest bidder. The prevalence of poverty and hardship creates conditions that allow political elites to manipulate the electoral process for their own interests. This is one of the realities our movement is determined to confront through sustained political education, organisation, and mass mobilisation.
We also wish to specially appreciate our indefatigable candidate, Comrade Olajide Esan, for his courage, dedication, sacrifice, and unwavering commitment to building a just and egalitarian Osun State where every citizen can live with dignity, opportunity, and abundance.
To the good people of Osun State, our party and candidate presented a clear alternative pathway out of our longstanding socioeconomic challenges. However, the outcome of the election demonstrates the urgent need for deeper political and class consciousness among the people.
The issues before us go beyond individuals and political parties. They concern the fundamental question of who controls political power and whose interests governance ultimately serves. We must therefore develop the consciousness to distinguish between what we genuinely need as a people and what political actors offer us during elections.
The recent political developments following the election, including the endorsement of the Tinubu administration by Governor Ademola Adeleke, further underscore the importance of political consciousness and ideological clarity. Osun people must continue to ask fundamental questions about the direction of governance, the interests being served, and whether political decisions truly reflect the aspirations of ordinary citizens.
The sooner we understand our collective interests as a people, the closer we move towards genuine liberation in a society where political and economic power remains concentrated in the hands of a privileged few.
Finally, the African Action Congress is a party of all seasons. We do not appear only during elections. We shall continue to organise, educate, defend, and protect the interests of the people of Osun State and Nigerians at large.
As we look towards 2027, we urge all our supporters and members to remain focused, organised, and committed to building a better Nigeria. It is not enough for our votes to count; we must also make informed choices capable of producing the kind of society we desire.
We must look beyond the familiar patterns of governance, study successful alternatives around the world, and determine what truly works for our people. We must stop glorifying corruption, impunity, and failed leadership. The best legacy we can leave for our generation and generations yet unborn is to build the political consciousness and organisation necessary to demand accountability and elect credible alternatives.
The AAC remains committed to providing that alternative pathway to genuine liberation.
Dear comrades, supporters, and well-meaning citizens, let us turn our attention to 2027. Let us organise, educate, mobilise, and take our message of people-oriented governance to every community. Let us tell the people about the credible candidates and programmes of the African Action Congress and work collectively towards a better Osun State and a better Nigeria.
