CITIZENS COMPASS – Ikorodu Local Government Chairman, Mr Wasiu Adesina warned the residents of Ikorodu against indiscriminate dumping of refuse and sands inside the drainage system as he embarks on massive road repairs.

Citizenscompass reports that work is about to be completed on 870 metres, Ita-Elewa-Ladega road, Ladamus area in Ikorodu, Lagos.

Adesina gave the warning during the inspection of the ongoing road rehabilitation and filling of potholes at Ita-Elewa-Ladega in Ikorodu.

According to him, the warning became necessary to caution residents who had cultivated the habit of dumping sand and refuse inside the drainages and canals which prevented the free flowing of water especially during rainy season.

“Refuse and sand dumping is a major cause of destruction of our roads.

“Some of our people usually leave unused sand used to build their  houses inside the drainage system.

“I appeal to my people to avoid destroying our roads with the perception of “it is government property.

“Let us maintain the roads and caution those culpable of destroying it,” he said.

Adesina said work would also commence immediately on Otambala to Ota-Ona road after the completion of the ongoing repair cut across the entire community as a way of distributing dividends of democracy to the residents.

He stressed that his administration would ensure that most bad road within Ikorodu central would be rehabilitated and  repaired to curb perennial flooding.

He said he has directed the works department of the council to ensure that  asphalt and standard materials are used for the repair so that the road would stand the test of time and last long for motorist and users.

“I want to use this medium to appeal to the people of this area to avoid dumping of refuse and cautioned those having intention to do so.

“The road belong to everybody and as such it has to be maintained.

“Dumping or refuse and blocking drainage ia dangerous to health and can cause communicable diseases.

“We are using standard materials for repair so that the road will last long for users,” he said.
