Ambode clarifies position on 2027 Gubernatorial Election in Lagos

CITIZENS COMPASS—The Tinubu-Ambo Support Media Group on Thursday, debunked a report by a section on the media stating the ambition of former Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, concerning the 2027 gubernatorial election in the state.

The Group distanced itself that Ambode has declared his intention to contest the election and throw his weight behind the second term bid of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Ade Babaleye Pab, Director of Media and Information, Tinubu-Ambo Support Media Group,

disclosed this in a statement which partly reads, “Our principal, His Excellency, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, has not made any declaration concerning his next line of political action. Any claim to the contrary is false, misleading, and should be disregarded by the public. As a law-abiding leader, Mr. Ambode fully respects the guidelines of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and has never made pronouncements outside the legal framework. Our principal is currently consulting widely, listening to stakeholders, and at the appropriate time will personally make his position known to Lagosians and Nigerians. We regard this publication as an act of political blackmail aimed at misrepresenting the intentions of our principal and misleading the public.”

The group further urged the media and members of the public to rely solely on verified information from official Tinubu-Ambo Support structures.

According to the statement, Ambode will address Lagosians directly in his political direction at the appropriate time, and until then, any claims to the contrary should be ignored.

The clarification follows widespread circulation of reports suggesting Ambode’s political endorsement for the President, which the media group described as misleading and intended to distort public perception.

Officials emphasised that Ambode remains engaged in consultations and has made no public pronouncement regarding his future political plans.
