Argentina wins World Cup

CITIZENS COMPASS– THE 2022 World Cup in Qatar finally ended on Sunday with Argentina emerging as champion having defeated France by four goals against three in penalities.

The team scored two goals in first half but France equalised with a brace from Mbappe.

The match took place at Lusail Stadium
where Argentina had drawn 3-3 against France after 120 minutes of intense match.

After a 3-3 thriller across 120 minutes, Argentina bested France 4-2 on penalties to win their Third World Cup, after 36 years.

Earlier, while Argentina took a 2-0 lead via Lionel Messi and Angel Di Maria, it was Kylian Mbappe, who got France back with a brace inside 97 seconds in the second half.

Messi would find the net once again in extra time but France hit back via another goal from Mbappe from the spot.

Messi and Angel di Maria put La Albiceleste 2-0 up in the first half, but Kylian Mbappe scored a brace in the second half to force the game into extra time.

However, Messi scored for Argentina in 108 minutes before Mbappe completed his hat-trick as he netted a late extra-time second-half goal to force the game into a penalty shoot-out.

Recall that Messi had made his 1,000th competitive appearance in the knockout stages in Qatar.

Lionel Messi on Sunday insisted that he is not retiring from international football after guiding Argentina to the World Cup glory in Qatar.

“Obviously, I wanted to complete my career with this, (I) can’t ask for more,” Messi said. “Finishing my career this way is impressive. After this, what else? I have a Copa América, a World Cup. Almost at the very end.

“I love soccer, what I do. I enjoy being part of the national team, the group. I want to enjoy a couple of more matches being a world champion.”
