At last, Fusengbuwa Ruling House announces Nomination Date for Awujale stool

CITIZENS COMPASS— The Fusengbuwa Ruling House has announced Monday, January 12, 2026, as a new date for the Nomination of candidates for the vacant stool of Awujale and Paramount Ruler of Ijebuland in Ogun State.

The venue and date for the meeting is Bisrod Hall, GRA, Ijebu-Ode, at Noon.

Four ruling houses: Anikinaiya, Fusengbuwa, Fidipote, and Gbelegbuwa are eligible to field candidates for the Awujale stool.

Recall that the State government had about a fortnight ago directed the Fusengbuwa Ruling House to halt the selection process citing procedural errors that could lead to litigation.

However, yesterday, the Ijebu-Ode Local Government, authorised the Ruling House to commence the Nomination process to fill the vacant stool.

Citizens Compass reported that there were allegations from various quarters about the previous process until the government asked the Ruling House to suspend the process.

Citizens Compass reported that following the rotational system, the Fusengbuwa Ruling House is next in line to produce the next Awujale.

In a letter dated, Tuesday, January 6, 2027, and addressed to the Executive Chairman,

Ijebu-Ode Local Government, Ogun State, the Fusengbuwa Ruling House had informed the Council about the January 12 intention.

The letter, signed by Otunba Abdul Lateef Adebayo Owoyemi,

Chairman & Family Head,

Fusengbuwa Ruling House, reads:

Dear Sir,

Notification of Ruling House Family Nomination meeting for the Stool of Awujale and Paramount Ruler of Ijebuland

We wish to thank you for your letter dated 6th January, 2026, Reference No 10t, and confirm to you, that our Ruling House Family Nomination meeting for the vacant position of the Awujale and Paramount Ruler of Ijebuland, has, by the grace of Almighty God, been fixed to take place as below;

Date: 12th January, 2026

Venue: The BISROD Hall, GRA, off Igbeba Road, Ijebu-Ode.

Time: 12 Noon

We also hereby invite the Secretary of the local government and his officials to please join us for the meeting to observe our Ruling House Family Nomination meeting process, in accordance with the Law.

In his response, Hon. Oke Abiodun Adebanjo, Secretary to the Local Government, in a letter, wrote:

Approval for the commencement of the process to fill the vacant stool of the Awujale and Paramount Ruler of Ijebuland

Following clearance from the Ministry of Chieftaincy Affairs, I am directed to convey the approval of the Executive Chairman, Hon. Dare Alebiosu, for the commencement of process to fill the vacant stool of Awujale and Paramount Ruler of Ijebuland.

The Fusengbuwa Ruling House is hereby authorised to begin Internal Selection Process in accordance with the Customary Laws of Ijebuland and Chieftaincy Regulations of Ijebuland.

The Fusengbuwa Ruling House is hereby authorised to begin its internal selection process in accordance with the Customary Laws of Ijebuland and the Customary Regulations of Ogun State.

To ensure proper administrative documentation, please, you are to formally notify the local government of the date, time and venue of the Nomination exercise. Which must be within 14 days from the receipt of this Notification while Representatives of the Local Government will attend strictly as observers.

The approval is issued to facilitate due process and remains without prejudice to the traditional rites and internal procedures of the Ruling House.
