
COUNCIL ELECTIONS: Gbadebo-Alogba, Aroyewun, others emerge winners in Ikorodu
…PDP wins councillorship seat
…Abiru, Daini commend APC

CITIZENS COMPASS—The Chairmanship candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have won the just concluded Council elections in the Ikorodu Division which was held yesterday, in Lagos State.
The elections were held across the 27 Local Government (LG) and Local Council Development Areas in the State (LCDA).
According to the results released by the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC), a total of 106,110 votes were recorded in Ikorodu Division out of which Prince Abdullateef Adedayo Ladega polled 38,946 to become the Chairman-elect for Ikorodu Local Government while Ameen Olawale Apanishile polled 13,844 to win the chairmanship seat of Ikorodu North LCDA and Hammed Olalekan Aroyewun got 15,015 votes to win the chairmanship seat of Igbogbo Baiyeku LCDA.
Others are Motunrayo Gbadebo-Alogba (Ijede LCDA) with 11,958 votes, Sulaimon Kazeem Olanrewaju (Ikorodu West LCDA) with 12,772 votes and Sunday Benson Ayodele (Imota LCDA) with 13, 539 votes.
According to the results declared by LASIEC on Sunday, APC won all 57 chairmanship seats and 375 councillorship seats in the Saturday’s elections.
LASIEC Chairman, Retired Justice Bola Okikiolu-Ighile, said this on Sunday while declaring the results of the exercise at the commission’s headquarters in Sabo Yaba, Lagos, said APC won 375 of the 376 councilorship seats, except in Yaba LCDA where the councillorship candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) was declared the winner.
The victory was recorded in Ward D of the Yaba Local Council Development Area (LCDA), where the PDP candidate, Babatunde Dosunmu, was declared the winner.
Similarly, the Commission declared APC candidates in Badagry Local Government, Olorunda, Badagry-West LCDA and other Divisions in the State.
In a chat with Citizens Compass, the Senator representing Ikorodu-East, Adetokunbo Abiru also commended LASIEC for seamless and peaceful conduct of the council election.
Abiru gave the commendation while casting his vote at about 10:35 at ward C Aga/Ijomu unit 11 Ikorodu, Lagos state
“I gave a very high kudos to the organisers, the orderliness and turnout of people are encouraging.
“Now more people engage and become involved in how the grassroots will continue to transform.
“It is very commendable even the security agencies are present as you can see there is no rancour.
“I believe this is how we can deepen democracy and the interest of the people must be very clearly involved in the process,” he said.
According to him, the National Assembly was being careful and following due process in passing the law empowering the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct LGA polls.
“I am not sure there is any delay, it is a process and we are following the process and are very careful.
“We deny any error or omission, it is a process and we are trying to be careful.”
Similarly, the outgoing chairman of Igbogbo/Baiyeku Local Council Development Area(LCDA), Olusesan Daini popularly known as Builder Sesan, has commended LASIEC for peaceful conduct.
Dani disclosed this yesterday, while casting his vote at polling at about 10: 05 at unit 004, Omokun ward B unit 11 in Igbogbo, Lagos State.
According to him, “The election is calm and cool, we are making sure that the atmosphere is cool for the electorate.
“There is improvement on the part of LASIEC, they are trained and their relationship with the electorate is smooth.
“I think they have a way of checking voters’ register using code and this has made it very fast,” he said.
Meanwhile, it’s jubilation galore in APC camps on Sunday as the winners celebrated with their fans.
