
Flood sweeps away two siblings
CITIZENS COMPASS—Two children of the same parents were reportedly swept away by flood in Ondo State.
The incident reportedly occurred on Monday, in Omileye, Ore town in Odigbo Local Government area of the State during a downpour which led to the overflowing of a popular Omileye river in the town.
Citizens Compass gathered that the teenagers, both males, were returning home from their father’s shop, who is a mechanic in the town.
This was in the late evening.
Both were said to be pupils of a private nursery and primary school in the area.
According to a source, the victims were attempting to cross the river when they were swept away by the strong current.
When their father did not hear from them, he was said to have raised the alarm which attracted a search party.
A report was subsequently lodged at the Divisional Police Station in the town.
Local swimmers and some Good Samaritans were said to have swung into action.
After combing the area including the river bank, the bodies of the teenagers were recovered the following day.
Contacted, spokesperson, Ondo State Police Command, Mr. Olayinka Ayanlade, said the incident had not yet been reported at any police station in the area.
He assured that a detective would be assigned to commence an investigation into the matter.
