Governor discloses outcome of visit to Nnamdi Kanu

CITIZENS COMPASS— Abia State Governor, Alex Otti has disclosed the outcome of his visit to the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, in the Sokoto Correctional Center in Sokoto State.

Citizens Compass reported that Nnamdi Kanu was sentenced to life imprisonment on a seven charges including terrorism.

Justice James Omotosho delivered the judgment on Thursday, November 20, 2025. He was yesterday, visited by

Governor Ottii who disclosed the outcome of the visit in a statement on Media and Publicity, Ferdinand Ekeoma.

He told the IPOB leader that the processes he initiated more than two years ago toward resolving the issue had been “heightened despite recent developments.”

The Governor said he encouraged Kanu to “remain calm but strong,” assuring him that the matter “will be resolved administratively” and that he would eventually regain his freedom.

“We are going back with the memories that Sokoto is a land of hospitality and we are so happy to see our brother, our son, Nnamdi Mazi Kanu, who has also become a son to me because of the circumstances that happened.

“We are happy that you people are taking care of him, and I pray that God will continue to bless Sokoto State and the Federal Republic of Nigeria for the good brotherhood and for the love we all have for each other,” Otti added.

Otti visited Kanu alongside his (Kanu’s) younger brother, Emmanuel Kanu; the Abia State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Ikechukwu Uwanna (SAN); and his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ferdinand Ekeoma.

Meanwhile, the Convener and National Chairman of Igbo Agenda Dialogue (IAD), Chief Chekwas Okorie, has praised the Governor for visiting Nnamdi Kanu.
