Man dies while salvaging cylinder
CITIZENS COMPASS— In his bid to retrieve a gas cylinder from a well, a 30-year-old man has met his untimely death in Kano State.
The death occurred in Gwarzo Local Government Area of the State, when the deceased reportedly entered a well to retrieve the cylinder.
Spokesperson, Kano State Fire Service, Saminu Abdullahi, confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Monday.
He said the incident occurred yesterday, at Saulawa Quarters in Gwarzo town.
According to the spokesperson, the Emergency Response Unit received a distress call on Sunday reporting a rescue incident at Saulawa Quarters in Gwarzo town.
“The Gwarzo branch office received a call from Alhaji Dan Dauda Gwarzo, who reported that a man had entered a well.
“The victim, identified as Ashahabu Ubale, aged about 30 years, entered the well in an attempt to retrieve a burning gas cylinder that had been thrown inside.”
“The gas released inside the well led to a lack of oxygen, which resulted in suffocation,” the Fire Service explained.
“The body of the victim was subsequently handed over to Police Constable Muhammad Zakiyyu of the Gwarzo Police Division,” the statement added.
“We strongly advise the public to observe safety precautions around open wells and hazardous areas, as entering such places without professional equipment can be fatal,” the Kano State Fire Service said.
