Officer, wife die during birthday celebration

CITIZENS COMPASS—A couple has been reportedly found dead in Spain while celebrating the 4th birthday of their daughter.

Their bodies were reportedly recovered in a motel hot tub.

Both were identified as 37-year-old military police officer Jeferson Luiz Sagaz and his 41-year-old partner Ana Carolina Silva, a nail salon owner, were discovered lifeless in a motel bathtub in São José, Santa Catarina, Brazil.

According to local reports, the pair had spent the day celebrating their daughter’s birthday at a food park where they drank alcohol before heading to a nightclub and later checking into the Dallas Motel to continue their night.

They were last seen alive around 11:30 p.m., and when they failed to pick up their daughter the next morning, who had been staying with Jeferson’s sister, worried relatives alerted authorities.

Police later found the couple dead in the motel bathtub, where the water temperature reportedly reached 50°C, with a space heater also left on at high heat.

The incident was said to have occurred in the Brazilian state of Santa Catarina, on the night of August 11.

Following autopsy and toxicology tests, Chief Medical Examiner Andressa Boer Fronza confirmed that the couple died from exogenous poisoning, worsened by heatstroke, severe dehydration, and organ failure.

Traces of cocaine and high alcohol levels were also found in their systems.

Investigators ruled out foul play, electric shock, drowning, or carbon monoxide poisoning. Chief of Police Felipe Simão Gomes stated that the evidence pointed to a sudden and accidental death, not third-party involvement.

However, Ana Carolina’s family has disputed claims of habitual drug use, suggesting she might have been forced to ingest a substance.

The couple, who had been together for nearly 20 years, leave behind a young daughter — now orphaned after what was supposed to be a joyful family celebration turned tragic.
