Police speak after popular Lagos boy was shot dead
CITIZENS COMPASS— A few hours after the death of a suspected cult leader, Adedipe Adeyinkan, popularly known as Agali, was shot dead, the Lagos State Police Command on Monday, urged Lagosians particularly those living in the Surulere area to go about their businesses in a peaceful way.
Agali, a suspected leading figure of the Buccaneers (BAN) cult group, was known to be influential within the axis, particularly around the Shitta/Akere area.
He was said to be shot dead on Saturday, April 11, 2026 as the death sparked tension in the axis over possible reprisal attacks in the area.
Agali was reportedly shot while on motion around the Iponri area.
There were conflicting accounts surrounding the death of Agali who was described as being kind to many.
He was said to be a staunch politician who had pitched his tent with a particular aspirant in the area against an incumbent.
This was said to have generated internal crises among various factions.
Another version said his fellow cultists opened fire on him.
The news of Agali’s death spread rapidly which ignited the rumour of a cult’ clash in the axis but on Monday, the Lagos State Police Command debunked this urging members of the public to go about their activities peacefully.
Spokesperson for the Command, Abimbola Adebisi, disclosed this in a statement which reads:
The Lagos State Police Command wishes to address the circulating message alleging a possible cult-related clash in some areas of the State, particularly Shitta, Akerele, Itire/Aguda, and Ishaga axis, purportedly in retaliation for a reported incident.
The Command wishes to categorically state that it has taken proactive and decisive measures to forestall any breakdown of law and order in the affected areas and beyond. The Command therefore wishes to reassure members of the public that there is no cause for alarm. Residents are encouraged to go about their lawful duties without fear or apprehension, as the Police and other security agencies remain fully on ground and committed to maintaining peace and order.
While the Command acknowledges the concerns raised, members of the public are advised to disregard unverified rumours capable of creating panic and instead rely on credible information from official sources.
