CITIZENS COMPASS—-The alumni of Reverend Kuti Memorial Grammar School (RKMGS), Abeokuta, Ogun State, on Saturday, organised its 2nd Annual General Meeting (AGM) just as its National President, Mr Akanni Oguntoyinbo, presented the score cards of the association.
The virtual meeting was held via Zoom at about 11:15a.m.
It was presided over by Elder Muyiwa Shoyombo, Chairman, Board of Trustees.
In his welcome address, the National President rolled out the achievements of the alma mater.

“Amongst our major achievements over the past year is the ongoing gate and fence project at the school entrance, which remains ongoing as we round off our tenure of three years as elected National Exco. This project is a sure testament to our collective commitment as Kutites, to again boldly give back to our alma mater, while by extension improving the learning environment for our current and future students. We are grateful to every member who has contributed financially, physically and spiritually towards this project. Your support has brought us closer to our goal, and we’re confident that we’ll complete this project soon and indeed, hopefully to round up our stewardship as NatExco.
“Our community development initiatives have also made some tangible differences in the lives of those around us. Through our collective endeavours, we have supported educational projects, health initiatives, and environmental conservation efforts. These projects reflect our commitment to giving back and making positive impacts.
“Financially, we’re proud to give kudos to our collective efforts, which has helped our association accomplish this far, with an unwavering hope for a more stable and sustainable financial regime for a grander future for our Great KOSA. As National Exco, we have managed our resources effectively, ensuring that we’re able to fund our activities and support our indigent members where necessary and required.
“As we look into the future, we are encouraged about the opportunities that lie ahead of us, such that they will be the catalyst for greater accomplishments for our great alma mater. We’ll continue to appeal that we strengthen our networks, expand our community development initiatives, and continue to provide support and encouragements to our members. We should also collectively explore new ways to promote our alma mater and enhance the Reverend Kuti Memorial Grammar School Old Students Association (RKMGSOSA) experiences.”
He mentioned some future objectives of the association;
“Some of our key future objectives as we officially birth into our new year will include: completing the Fence and Gate project that will redefine our school entrance, expanding our membership and engagement across different regions by inaugurating more state chapters and welcoming more sets and developing strategic partnerships with organizations that align with our values.”
Others are, “Improving on our online presence and enhancing our communication channels, and increasing our community development initiatives and impacts.
“Above all, our plan to build a befitting Multi Purpose Hall, that we hope at completion will positively change the narrative of our collective endeavours to a truly greater RKMGS of our dreams. The good news is that it is very feasible and positively achievable. And talking about feasibility and positivity brings to mind our beautiful result of our collective resolve to return environmental sanity into our school premises, even from the main entrance which gave birth to the idea of the Fence and Gate project. The greatest challenges were the unimaginable illegal occupation of major spaces and historical structures by several vendors, including building materials outlets, mechanic workshops and many others and the old administrative building which remains one the major legacies of our school’s founder, Mrs Funmilayo Ransome Kuti. “There are also the expansive hectares of our then school farm lands, illegally taken over with different structures, including residential buildings, a church, a mosque, school and others. It took us almost two years of consistent battles of uncountable engagements with these illegal occupiers, the Nigerian Police and State Ogun State government to achieve the eventual, but yet partial removal of these people to make way for the realization of securing the school premises with the ongoing Fence and Gate Project. Am also glad to let us know that the State government has also resolved not to relent in ensuring that the remaining occupied lands and properties of our school are taken back and returned to the school.”
Corroborating the National President, the National Vice President of the association, Mr Bamidele Banjoko urged members to work in synergy towards the success of the association.
Elder Shoyombo urged members to ensure the association operates effectively and achieves its goals.
The Board Secretary, Mojisola Ogundeyi, presented further reports from the Board.
The AGM was a forum to foster unity among members.
