Two dead, four rescued in Lagos building collapse 

 

CITIZENS COMPASS—Emergency responders in Lagos have recovered two bodies and rescued four others from the rubble of a three-storey building which collapsed at 333, Borno Way, Alaagomeji, Yaba area of Lagos State.

The building collapsed at about 8:30pm yesterday.

Mrs Adenike Ibitayo, Acting Head, National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Lagos Operations Office, on Saturday, confirmed the collapse to newsmen.

According to her, the bodies, all males, were recovered in the afternoon while those rescued, all males, were taken to the hospital in the morning.

As at the time of filing this report, she said responders were still at the scene of the emergency.

She said, “Two bodies(male) have been recovered from the rubble. There is still speculation of one more.

“A 3-storey building under construction collapsed yesterday night by 8:30pm at 333 Borrno street, Alagomeji, Yaba trapping several persons.

“4 persons(male) have been rescued and taken to the hospital. Responders are still on ground and SAR operation ongoing.

The number of persons under the rubble cannot be ascertained until it is brought to ground zero.”
