
Undergraduate reportedly drowns in Lagos beach
CITIZENS COMPASS—The University of Lagos (UNILAG), has confirmed the death of one of its students, Damilola Balogun, who drowned at a Lagos beach.
The University confirmed this on Monday, in a statement by its Director of Communications, Mrs Adejoke Alaga-Ibraheem.
Damilola tragically lost his life a few days ago at Eleko Beach.
Reports said the fun seeking undergraduate was at the beach alongside his friends when the unfortunate incident occurred.
The Director condoles with the affected family over the unfortunate incident.
According to her, “It is true, Mr Damilola Balogun, the Faculty of Education student, drowned off Eleko Beach on Thursday, September 18, 2025.
“The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Folasade T. Ogunsola, OON, FAS, on behalf of the entire University community, commiserates with his family, and prays that God grants the bereaved family the strength and fortitude to bear the irreplaceable loss,” she stated.
A report indicated that the deceased requested a friend to record him inside the river, but unfortunately he was swept away before help could come.
A medical doctor and social media user, Dr. Farouk, shared the information about the undergraduate’s death which has been generating reactions among many Nigerians.
Some UNILAG students have expressed condolences to the university.
