CITIZENS COMPASS— Alhaja Sekinat Tolanikawo Adelakun Akande popularly known as Eruobodo 1, wife of Fuji musician Abass Akande Obesere, yesterday, declared her ambition to contest for the House of Representatives seat in Oyo State.
She will be contesting under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to represent Ibadan North East/South East Federal Constituency on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The musician’s wife declared her intention at St. Cyprian Primary School, Ibadan.
Speaking, Akande said her ambition was driven by a passion for people and a desire to provide quality representation.
“I am a people-oriented person. I love to be with people, to represent them, and to speak on their behalf. That is the motivation behind this ambition.
“I am a natural giver. Even before deciding to contest, I have always supported people. My care for women and the girl-child will continue because they remain a priority,” she added.
The Women Leader for Oyo State APC, Felicia Opatunde, described the declaration as a welcome development saying that increased female participation would strengthen democracy and improve representation.
“For a long time, women have been marginalised. More women coming out to contest is encouraging and good for our democracy,” she said.
Opatunde urged eligible citizens to register and participate in the electoral process and called on women across the state to mobilise in large numbers.
