CITIZENS COMPASS– Mr Gbolahan Ogunleye, a member of the Lagos State House of Assembly representing Ikorodu Constituency 1, has advocated for increased support for extracurricular activities in the development of students.
Ogunleye (APC-Ikorodu 1) recently made the call during the distribution of free school bags and writing materials to pupils in primary schools in Ikorodu, Lagos on Wednesday.
According to the Citizen Compass, the distribution across primary schools in Lagos was an initiative of Lagos State Signage and Advertising Agency (LASAA) in conjunction with a Non Governmental Organisation (NGO), Omodada Foundation.
The schools visited were; Etunwenre Primary School, Muslim B and Ijomu Primary Schools in Ikorodu.
Ogunleye said, “I donated table tennis boards to encourage them in extracurricular activities because school is not for only academics.
“They are supposed to mould the students to know other skills while in school.
“Table tennis is a sport that can follow them to old age to keep them fit in body and mind.”he said.
Also speaking, Mr Fatiu Akiolu, Managing Director, LASAA, said the school bag distribution was part of the agency’s corporate social responsibility project to impact the lives of students.
Akiolu noted that the manufacturing of the bags was through its conversion of waste to wealth initiative and this would also reduce waste blocking the drainages causing flood in the state.
He expressed gratitude to Ogunleye for his support of extracurricular activities in schools, adding that students can develop themselves in different skills for career or relaxation purposes.
Similarly, Mr Omoniyi Dada, Chairman, Omodada Foundation, called on private and corporate organisations to partner with the government to support the waste-to-wealth initiative.
