Council chair empowers 20 women with N1m

CITIZENS COMPASS– The Chairman of Ikorodu Local Government area of Lagos State, Hon Wasiu Adesina, on Tuesday, empowered 20 women with N1m cash gift aimed at alleviating poverty and improving their economic status.

Adesina made the empowerment during the 43rd birthday celebration of Alhaja Rashidat Bello, the All Progressive Congress Party (APC) Ikorodu Divisional woman leader at the council secretariat, Ikorodu, Lagos.

The Citizens Compass reports that the 20 women were selected across the wards and each beneficiary received cash of N50,000 each.

“My strong belief is that the best way to serve the people is by investing in their potential.

“Providing access to initiatives such as this, we are not merely giving our people fish; we are teaching them how to fish,” Adesina said.

Adesina emphasised his commitment to making every member of his constituency have a taste of the dividend of democracy and promised to ensure that all ongoing projects were completed and handed over to the next administration.

He expressed gratitude to the management team of the council, the workers and heads of department for their unflinching loyalty and support as well as appealed to them to give the same to the incoming administration.

The chairman promised to provide free transport for those who has not collected their Permanent Voters Card( PVC) to ease and seamless collection and urged residents to come out enmass and vote for APC.

Similarly, Alhaja Bello charged the beneficiaries to ensure judicious use of the cash gift to alleviate their suffering and promised to always carry the women along in all the party activities.

She commended the council chairman for his kindness, generosity as well as effort in supporting women through his continuous empowerment programme to them and promised her loyalty to the party at all times.

“I thanked the executive chairman of Ikorodu for supporting me and the entire women of our party APC.

“This cash gift is an important seed to start up business and alleviate poverty within our women,” she said

Earlier, Mrs Shokunbi Karimot, one of the beneficiaries commended APC and the chairman for selecting them as part of the beneficiaries and pray for more elevation in his political career.

Present at the event includes; Princess Busayo Isikalu, Iyaloja General of Ikorodu, Mrs Jumoke Okoya Thomas and other party stalwarts.
