Landlady allegedly poisons neighbour’s child
CITIZENS COMPASS— A 40-year-old land lady, Nafisat Lateef, is currently in Police custody for allegedly poisoning her tenant’s son in Ondo State.
The three-year-old son was said to have met his untimely death in Odigbo Local Government Area of the state.
Spokesperson for the Command, Abayomi Jimoh, confirmed the arrest yesterday, in a statement.
He said the incident was reported at the Odigbo Police Division on Wednesday, February 4, 2026.
According to him, the child’s mother, 32-year-old Rofiyat, lodged the complaint with the Police.
He said Rotiat resides in the Omifon community, Odigbo.
“Police investigations revealed that the incident allegedly occurred on Tuesday, 3rd February, at about 8:30 a.m., when the suspect reportedly gave the child, identified as Abdulrasheed, a liquid substance suspected to be poisonous.
The Police said the alleged act followed a misunderstanding between the complainant and the suspect, who is the complainant’s landlady.
“Shortly after consuming the substance, the child reportedly began vomiting and was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where he received medical attention,” the statement said.
“Detectives from the Command were said to have launched a swift and intelligence-led operation, leading to the arrest of the suspect.
During the investigation, police also recovered the liquid substance allegedly administered to the child.
“The suspect is currently in custody and has made statements to investigators, while efforts are ongoing to conclude investigations before charging the case to court.
“Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in Ondo State, CP Adebowale Lawal, urged residents to avoid landlord-tenant disputes, warning that such disagreements could escalate into criminal acts if not properly managed.
“He assured the public that the command remains committed to the protection of lives and property and would ensure that justice is served in the case.”
