Newly wed, others arrested over N10,000 dowry

 

 

CITIZENS COMPASS—The Kano State Hisbah Board has arrested a couple and three others for allegedly conducting an illegal marriage ceremony without parental consent or proper Islamic procedures.

The Deputy Commander General of the Hisbah Board, Dr. Mujahideen Aminuddeen, confirmed the arrest in a statement on Monday.

According to him, the suspects included the bride, the groom, two representatives, and a witness who allegedly facilitated the union in defiance of Islamic and legal norms.

Aminuddeen said the marriage was performed with a ₦10,000 dowry, an amount said to be below the minimum standard recognised under Islamic marital regulations. He described the act as a serious violation, stressing that all parties involved were being questioned.

The Board has launched a full investigation to determine the circumstances behind this illegal marriage,” Aminuddeen stated. “We urge parents to closely monitor the social engagements of their children and ensure they follow proper Islamic guidance in marital matters.”

The Hisbah commander reiterated that any union conducted without parental consent or the necessary religious approval would be deemed an illegal marriage and subject to sanction under Sharia provisions.
