Bandits kill ex-student union president
CITIZENS COMPASS—Suspected bandits have eliminated Salihu Bio Khalid, a former President, Student Union Government (SUG), Kwara State College of Nursing, Ilorin.
The violent attack leading to the death of the former student leader occurred on Tuesday night in Kaiama Local Government Area of the State.
While official details are still sketchy as of the time of filing this report, sources said that the attack left many people dead and homes burnt.
The assailants, suspected to be bandits operating from the forests bordering Niger State, stormed communities in the Woro and Nuku areas of Kaiama around evening. They opened fire on residents, causing mass panic and a rising death toll. Initial official figures suggested at least 10 persons were killed, but later reports indicate the number of fatalities could be significantly higher — with local sources estimating dozens dead or missing.
Among those confirmed killed is Comrade Salihu Bio Khalid, who served as the Student Union Government President of Kwara State College of Nursing in Ilorin. His leadership on campus earned him respect among students and alumni, making his death a devastating loss for the academic and local youth community. In a statement, the National Association of Nigeria Comrades (NANC) Kwara Axis expressed shock and mourning over the tragedy. The association called for urgent action to protect students and residents, urging the Kwara State Government and security agencies to strengthen security around student-populated areas, major transit routes, and to conduct thorough investigations to bring perpetrators to justice.
