Mother of late singer, Destiny Boy speaks

... Police make arrest

CITIZENS COMPASS— A few days after the death of Afrofuji singer, Adesina Afeez popularly known as Destiny Boy, his mother, Saidat Adeshina, has revealed the circumstances surrounding the death of her son.

Contrary to the insinuations that Destiny Boy died of ritual related circumstances, the bereaved mother said her 22-year-old son battled medical complications for years before giving up the ghost.

News of his death was filtered on Sunday as his body was being taken to the morgue.

This is just after the Ogun State Police Command on Monday, said it has apprehended a suspect in connection with the death.

Spokesperson for the Command, Babaseyi Oluseyi, disclosed this on the official social media platforms of the Command.

Babaseyi said the matter has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Homicide Section, for detailed investigation.

According to her, “The Ogun State Police Command has since commenced investigations into the death of Adesina Afeez, aged 22 years, popularly known as Destiny Boy.

“The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Homicide Section, for detailed investigation. One suspect is currently in custody while investigations are ongoing.”

Adeshina spoke about her son’s death in an interview in a viral video monitored by Citizens Compass, the mother of Destiny Boy said that her son developed complications two years ago while preparing for the naming of his first born.

“Destiny Boy has gone to rest, I am ready to shed light on most of the things Nigerians don’t know.

“He started having seizures about two years ago,”

In a bid to find cure to the sickness, she said the family pursued every means, both medical and traditional. Unfortunately he did not survive it.

She said the singer also sought a solution with an Ifa priest, Ifayomi Oba Edun who later turned a family friend as he gave them a permanent apartment in his home.

According to her: “This happened about two years ago. The Ifa priest was not even aware of the incident. We were the ones who later informed him that Destiny Boy was sick. He told us that nothing must happen to Destiny Boy.

“The man was sending money to us to foot the hospital bills as we were treating him. When we noticed the sickness could not be treated, we asked Ọba Edun to allow us bring the child to him.

He then gave me a soap that I should use to bathe him which I did and we went back home. He felt fine at the time.”

Adeshina said whenever the seizures strike, her son displays epilepsy symptoms or mental disorders.

“Anytime it strikes him, he becomes stiff like someone who has epilepsy, and when he recovers, he starts behaving like someone with a mental disorder.

“We did not let the public know about this because he was a celebrity. We took him to pastors and traditionalists for him to get a cure all to no avail.

“One of the reasons why Destiny preferred to visit Ọba Edun is because he was always free with him.”

She said the circumstances leading to her son’s death occurred two weeks ago after a trip to Ayetoro, “Destiny Boy was taken to Ifayomi’s house for treatment.”

She said she was unable to leave her shop immediately, so she monitored the situation in a telephone conversation but the situation deteriorated days later.

“Two weeks ago, when he went to Ayetoro and was returning, they took him to Ifayomi’s house for treatment.

“His father went there and called me to come but there was no one to stay in my shop so I told them to excuse me but I was calling him on the phone and they said he was doing fine. Five days ago, I called him but he did not pick up.

“Three days ago, I told his sister to send a message of greetings to him. Two days ago, I was in the house when they called me that I should start coming to Ifayomi’s house because the seizure had started again.

“They said nothing was wrong with him before the seizure started. Ifayomi travelled to Ile-Ife, Osun State. Shortly after his return, his attention was drawn to Destiny Boy’s condition and he started applying treatment but all to no avail so they rushed him to the hospital.

“By the time I got to the hospital, they told me he had passed away. My son did not do any money ritual.”

In a viral video, Destiny Boy who traced his origin to Obantoko in Abeokuta, Ogun State, said his talent was discovered by Fuji star, Wasiu Alabi popularly known as Pasuma.
