Three-yr-old, others hospitalised as car collides during calls

 

CITIZENS COMPASS–A three-year-old girl and four adults were hospitalised on Sunday, April 28, 2024, when a car whose driver was making calls collided with a bus. 

Operatives of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) on Sunday, April 28, 2024, rescued the survivours to Gbagada General Hospital.

The incident occurred on Gbagada Bridge inward Gbagada Expressway at about 6p.m. 

Adebayo Taofiq, Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department at LASTMA, who confirmed the incident said the rescued persons were promptly taken to Gbagada General Hospital by LASTMA officials and Lagos State Ambulance Service (Lasambus) personnel.

He said, “Preliminary investigation revealed that the driver of a Benz car (JJJ 219 XU) lost control while using a mobile phone and collided with a Volkswagen Commercial bus (APP 46 GZ) parked by the roadside for battery repair.”

He said the three-year-old girl sustained a head injury, while the four others, including the commercial bus driver, suffered fractures in various parts of their bodies.

“LASTMA personnel apprehended the driver of the Benz car (JJJ 219 XU) immediately and handed him over to police officers from Alonge Police Station at Oworonsoki, present at the accident scene,” Mr. Adebayo stated.

“LASTMA personnel promptly cleared the two vehicles from the expressway to ensure smooth traffic flow on Gbagada Bridge towards Gbagada Expressway.”

“Mr Sola Giwa, Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, extended sympathies to the injured victims and stressed the importance of safety, urging all motorists, including commercial bus drivers, to avoid phone use while driving and to refrain from speeding during journeys within or outside Lagos.”
